My Mom is back from Florida, where she was attending a conference. For lunch today we had thin crust pizza made from leftovers; whole wheat tortillas, the last of the mozzarella and leftover spaghetti sauce. Not so creative, but hot and yummy. It’s 10 degrees outside, yech!
I am waaay behind on the PostADay challenge, and I am not letting it worry me one bit. I take these things as more of a suggestion than a deadline. I thought about changing to PostAWeek, but then I’d be like three months AHEAD of schedule, but that would just reinforce mu procrastinator-self, and you all would never hear from me again. I am working on a number of posts; here’s a taste of the draft titles:
So, really I am working on new posts that aren’t just cameraphone snapshots as food right before it goes in the gullet… stay tuned.

Today I begin the WordPress PostADay challenge, which is pretty self-explanatory really, you try to make at least one post a day, every day. And for my first PostADay post, I give you the third installment of the Food Project, turkey chili.
Started with two medium onions, gathered from the hanging bunch in the basement that we grew last summer. Sauted with a little grapeseed oil until translucent. Add 1 1/2 to 2 pounds ground turkey and brown. Add salt and pepper, just a bit.
Next comes two packages of frozen tomatoes (also from last summer’s garden) and small package of frozen cut up green bell peppers (homegrown).
Spices are as follows: heaping teaspoons of oregano (grown and dried by my dad), ground cumin, and ground red pepper. Remove the seeds of three dried thai peppers and crush (also from dad’s crop two summers ago), and half a teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa powder.
Throw it all in the pot and cook for at least one hour (three is better), add two cans black beans, undrained bring back to heat and then serve over pasta with cheese on top… mmmm. no pictures of the last part, it was too yummy to stop and take a picture.

cooking, food, food project, ice cream, recipes, stracciatella
I wouldn’t call it a New Year’s resolution exactly, but the other day I said to myself “you know, I really like to cook, I should do more of it.”
So in order to encourage myself in activities that I enjoy, I’m going to start blogging my food projects.
On Monday it was home made Stracciatella ice cream.
Sweet cream base from Ben and Jerry’s cook book (really more of a gelato since it uses uncooked eggs) with melted Ghiradelli chocolate… Mmmm
